Contemporary philosophers have attempted to reasonably affirm the existence of God through an abductive approach or “cumulative case” apologetic. The idea is that there is certain data that is better explained by the hypothesis that God exists than its rival atheism. Depending on what philosopher is making the cumulative case, such data may include the universe having a beginning, or being fine-tuned, or that many near death experiences have occurred (and been highly resistant to physicalist explanation).
