The Best Argument for God (Update)
My forthcoming book with Sophia, The Best Argument for God, is focused on what Thomas Aquinas considers one of the best arguments against God, which is still endorsed by many naturalists today.
In modern form: If two theories explain just as much, believe the simpler. Theism and atheism explain just as much; atheism is simpler. So, believe atheism.
My book sets out to reverse that argument as follows: atheism can only explain some, but not all, of what theism can when strapped with (way!) more complexity. So, believe theism.
The book sets forth the range of data to be explained, from contingency to semantic content, then evaluates the best of what theism and atheism have to offer. (One can guess my conclusions.) Along the way are discussions concerning metaphysical demonstration, worldview comparison, theoretical virtues, and more.
Ultimately, anyway, the book contains many different arguments converging to support the thesis that classical theism is the best worldview insofar as it can explain the most with the least and that there are certain ineliminable explanatory targets that naturalism cannot explain at all.
I hope you enjoy The Best Argument for God when it comes out. We’re currently looking at an October release.
